personality,
privilege is a double edge sword.
To say Ryder comes from a privileged lifestyle wouldn’t be too far off. He’d had everything he’s ever wanted, all at his disposal. His father has perfected and groomed him to a tee, and he knows how to act like his life is perfect, which in more ways that one, it is. He’s got money and attitude, but because of all the restrictions, he’s learned to rebel. And not just petty teenager rebellion. He’s got supreme amounts of intelligence, and will use it quite happily for his own gallant purposes. Though most of that intelligence is channeled into the pulling of things like pranks, Ryder’s mind is quite diabolical, and he has no problem crossing the line, showing no mercy. He’s a wild child with an allegiance to only himself, and despite his general good behavior in favor of the “good” witches and wizards, he really only answers to himself. He’d rather play by his rules, and only the toughest of wizards can tame him long enough to get him to behave. Ryder is somewhat naïve, having his whole world planned out for him, he thinks he’s always in control, even when he is not. He thinks he can do things without consequences, and more than once those consequences have caught up with him.
concieted, snob, it's all the same thing
Ryder is an arrogant prat. Can’t get around that one, no matter how hard we try. He has incredibly high standards, both for himself and others. This often translates directly into arrogance, though on rare occasions he chooses to rise above it. But most of the time, Ry is his usual snob of a self. He’s grown up in a world of balls and countryside manors, he’s never known any different. Not that that is an excuse. Good looks and athletic aptitude also helped a lot. He’s not the kind of guy that’s attractive because he doesn’t realize how cute he is. No, he’s the kind of boy that’s attractive because he knows it. Because he knows that you know it. And whether or not you want him at the time, he figures he could have you if he wanted, if he really, really wanted. And, for the most part that thesis has held true. Engorgio Ego. Though, for being such a kid of privilege, he’s never had that translate into discrimination against houses or blood. Well, okay, maybe blood a little. He does tend to hold purebloods in a higher esteem, though whether or not they stay esteemed is entirely up to the individual. As far as houses go, Ryder could care less. Sure, 90% of his friends are Slytherins. But considering he lives with them, is this really any surprise? But one of his closest is a –gasp—Gryffindor? The one thing that might have kept the two boys apart is really what brought them together. Defy the odds. Be the ones cool enough to pull away from the pack. Which has garnered much attention to say the least. Engorgio Ego. However, in reality, Ry’s extreme arrogance is partly a shield he can hide behind. He comes off as so sure of himself that you would never expect the fears and insecurities he does have, even if they aren’t huge. He’s always longed for some sort of acceptance from his father, something more than the distance stuck between them. If he acts like he doesn’t give a damn, then no one will know otherwise. It’s his barrier. And very rarely does he take that down, and if he does, it’s only to the closest and most trusted of friends.
behind that wicked grin.
If Ryder really feels comfortable with you, or he’s just in a pensive mood, he’ll open up, and what you find may surprise you. The boy is not only exceedingly intelligent, but he’s deep too. He’ll talk philosophy and psychology, about love and death. He has his opinions that will surprise you, guaranteed. He just never voices them. He has a lot of rich kid guilt, and when able to pull himself away from it all and think, finds himself somewhat disgusted with his life. He wants to be so much more than he is, do something great beyond what he has. Because his power is only held within the walls of Hogwarts. Outside, he’s nobody. He envies his father, mostly, because the man could change an entire country, yet is so passive about it. But Ry never really shares any of this. He’s completely bottled up. Not that he doesn’t want to. He just is used to being told that things like that make you look weak. And Ry can’t afford that, especially with his reputation. Social status is everything, it completely defines you and the life you lead. Losing that isn’t just harming you, it hurts your entire family name.
a world so unlike your own.
His etiquette is nearly perfect from years of it being drilled into him by his parents, who want him to live up to the family name. He was molded into near perfection in both looks and mannerism from early on, and still tends to hold other people accountable for the same. He’s far from perfect, however, and he’s stopped expecting a lot from people, and from the world. His little happy, childish ideals of sunshine and flowers were destroyed long ago —his father made sure of that, and as a result, he’s learned to rebel against what is told of him. Ryder is also extremely competitive. Although he doesn’t always wants to be in the limelight, everything is a bit of a competition for him, just to win it for the glory. For self satisfaction. It’s part of the world he was born into—a world where everyone is perfect. You have to stand out. You have to win. Because everyone else is trying too. He can be a gracious loser, or a sore loser, it really just depends on his mood, but he (obviously) much prefers to be the winner. It also depends on who is taking “the win” from him. He’s more apt to let a friend take something than someone he dislikes, an obvious preference.
when it's time to party we will party hard.
Ryder likes to party. Ryder likes to party hard. Well, not quite as hard as Adeline. But Ryder uses parties as a means for escapism. Because once the lights go down, you can be anyone you want to be. You can be yourself or someone completely unlike yourself. Therefore vacations and weekends are full of messing around, from socializing with whom he deems worthy to hitting up local hotspots. And with parties comes the ultimate fun: booze and girls. And since Ryder has FAR too much testosterone for his own good, these things are usually the first two things on his mind. More girls than alcohol though. Ryder will drink, but usually not enough to get drunk, he thinks that’s sorta tacky. Girls, however, are good in all amounts, and he has no problem hooking up on the dance floor. But going home is a different story. He won’t bring home just any girl. He wants to have to work for what he gets, and he doesn’t want some easy girl that every guy at Hogwarts has had. No, Ry has some standards, even if they are questionable. He’ll be your wingman any day, just ask and he’s there, unless some prior arrangement happens make trouble. He’s good to her word, so if he says he’s coming, he will.

fears, growing up. period. his worst fear. losing his dreams, especially quidditch death of his close friends and family
boggart, a boggart is an incredibly personal thing, but ryder's' would have to be time. in the past years he's dealt with boggarts in defense agains the dark arts, he's gotten only quizical looks when the boggart sprung into the shape of a giant clock, enlarging itself bigger and bigger before ry managed to turn it into a harmless bouncing ball. a lot of people asked what was up with that, but ryder refused to tell. the only thing he could possibly offer for what he feels is this: "Time takes it all, whether you want it to or not. Time takes it all, time bears it away, and in the end there is only darkness. Sometimes we find others in that darkness, and sometimes we lose them there again." though he'd never tell anyone. not a soul.
amortenia, ry's personal love potion smells something of rich earth at first, straight off the quiddich pitch, mixed with the smell of rain just before a huge, wonderful storm, and the faintest aroma of coffee as later notes, something that drafts in unexpectedly, but pleasantly.
erised, what could the boy who has everything possibly want? really? yeah, he'd probably see himself in there with professional quiddich robes on, and holding the world cup. shallow? yes. but true? yes.
dementor evoked memory, ry's dementor evoked memory ties back to when he was about seven, and had gone sailing with hunter on hunter's father's yacht. the children were playing while the boat sat idle, and ryder slipped off the edge. though he knew perfectly well how to swim, he managed to forget in the time that his body left the wooden deck to the time it hit the water, and had panicked, lost much air, and had been hauled out soon after by his uncle. it's a childish fear, but it was so real, every so often his nightmares will turn to it, that drowing sensation, endless blackness.
fights problems with bigger problems, and with a face like that, all they see is the beauty in the breakdown
hair, chocolate brown eyes, stormy gray portrayed by, gaspard ulliel
distinguishing features, he has a scar on his left cheek that forms a sort of crease when he smiles, but all the girls love it because it makes him look that much more endearing. other than that and a few small scratches and spots, ryder is pretty boring as far as battle wounds go. however there are some other parts of his anatomy that aren't boring at all. if you get what i mean.
looks are everything , When you are looking at the Kensington line, you’ll see that when they breed, you get exactly what fine French pureblooded parents should produce—fresh faced, charismatic attraction. There is no mistaking his heritage, though, most people know him by his unforgettable self-made reputation and his infamous features than by his last name. Though unlike the cold, blonde, striking handsome-ness that runs in the family, he inherited a much darker appearance. An appearance that often gives him the look of brooding, or the usual teenage angst, it’s more stereotypical of the “tall, dark, and handsome". It has always set him apart, perhaps which made him stand out so much at Hogwarts.
Ryder is quite tall at 6’1’’ and a half, and is built extremely lean, any muscle fitting into his long frame seamlessly. He’s not delicate, however, he’s quite sturdy, and his coc ky little strut is enough to show that off. He might be tall and thin, but he’ll pack a mean punch if he needs to. His body language fluid and almost graceful, matching his gentle limbs and broad, squared shoulders. His torso is average length, and the small of his back arches in slightly. Ryder’s legs are extremely long, as it makes up for most of his height. He is slightly duckfooted (when the toe part of your foot faces inward when you walk), but it’s not severe enough to really notice, except for when he stands. He had a thin mark that extends from the lower left side of the small of his back down to his right hip, a result of a quidditch accident.
When it comes to food, Ryder is a hot or cold kind of person. He either eats and eats and eats and eats, or he doesn’t eat at all. Recently it’s been more of the latter, and people joke that he just photosynthesizes his food. In reality he just isn’t hungry that often, and if he is he’ll snack in class. It never really affects his weight either way, he’s found that it’s nearly impossible to do that. Even during intense quidditch practice he gained much less muscle than other guys who bulked up considerably. He stays pretty much the same no matter what he does, though if he does loose or gain weight it’s most noticable in his face, as his cheekbones have become more prominent as he’s gotten older and slimmer. Not that Ry is a stick, he's got some nice abs and biceps, and spares no time in showing them off to whoever will look.
His hair is like the color of Coca-Cola. In fake lighting or indoors it appears a dark brown, almost like dark chocolate. But when he does into the sun you are able to see the undertones of light brown and red, and it comes off as an entirely different color. It’s naturally thick and shiny, and cut messily. He usually wears it like he just rolled out of bed, "sex hair"for lack of a better word. And it just works for him, in the James Potter sense, of course. It’s not very long, sort of cut in choppy layers with bangs. It’s naturally straight so aside from some gel now and then, he doesn’t bother with it too much.
Ryder’s rounded, almond shaped eyes are the color of French skies on a rainy day, a peaceful, muted gray often alighted with mutinous thought. It’s not a shock of color on his face, nor are they exceptionally ‘pretty’, but they are bright with thought, which make most of his expressions more charismatic, and give him a definite glow. Ry’s eyes are the most expressive part of him, and to the few he actually, fully, expresses himself, they can betray his most innermost thoughts. But to most they are nothing more than guarded door behind all that sparkle. They give him the appearance of a full-loving prankster, but nothing more. He was quickly labeled off as ‘shallow’ by his acquaintances because of it.
His skinis a smooth porcelain, free, for the most part, of blemishes, and often statuesque, like a marble statue. Although every teenager has their little imperfections, Ry has had pretty good skin for the most part. His face, shoulders, and arms have a dusting of the faintest freckles, the result of lazy summers spent in the French countryside. He does not tan, no matter how hard he tries. Though he isn’t ghostly white, he’s not exactly dark either. He’s a balance of the two, enough to still be considered ‘pale’ by the majority. His left cheek bears a scar only noticeable when he smiles, and even then it just looks like an exaggerated dimple, an crescent moon.
He’s fairly sedate and collected, preferring to keep most of his outward emotions to a minimum unless you get really close to him. He likes to keep people guessing. A good indicator of his mood, however, is in body language. You can usually tell how he is feeling by looking at his stance, even if he keeps his emotions off of his face. However, He can also fake any expression, any mood, and make you believe it wholeheartedly. It’s both a blessing and a curse. So much lying often takes a toll on the boy, but it also allows him to cover up what a mess he is inside. He remains his cool self at all times, no matter how high the cost.
He has enough clothing to sell and end world hunger, so you never quite see him in the same thing twice. And he has more brands than most people know or even really care about, although he doesn’t remember buying most of it.
Ryder is a pretty boy, but he’ll kill you if you say that out loud. Though you should just call him mildly vain, it might be a bit easier on both of your parts. He likes nothing better than doing his hair, though he’d never outwardly tell you that. He just looks good half the time and he knows it, even if he doesn’t call attention to it though words. He’s got a coc ky stance and a confident swagger, but underneath there is a whole lot more.
one more mistake, but they'll still say your the king of everything
family members,
Adeline Marie Kensington, especially that little blonde angel! and that exceptional beauty? of no relation, i trust?
relation, sister age, 16 hogwarts, slytherin 6th year portrayed by, mischa barton relationship, Ryder and Adeline have an extremely odd relationship, to say the least. Love-Hate might be an appropraite term, but it's a bit more love than hate. Ry can't stand Adeline's royal slut status, however, she's always gotten what she wanted, and when she wanted it, so he'd come to understand that this is just her way of rebelling against it. And it's partially his fault as well. She bears the Kensington name, a name he made infamous at Hogwarts, therefore subjecting her to a life on the pages of gossip girl. And in Adeline's head, she figures she might as well give them something to gossip about. Though Ry often finds her annoying and catty, Ry also loves her to death, and is extremely protective of her. She can have her exploits all she wants, but when it comes down to it, any boy who breaks her heart gets a broken nose. Or worse. Ry's done much worse. He's very affectionate with Adeline, when they are getting along, and they often come off as being best friends, giving piggyback rides, linking arms, Ryder hauling her around on his shoulders, whatever. When it comes down to it, they mean the world to each other, no matter how many times they fight and bicker.
Edward Chase Kensington, political tyranny is nothing compared to the social tyranny and a reformer who defies society is a more courageous man than a politician who defies government
relation, father age, 47 occupation, member of the senate portrayed by, gerard butler relationship,
An affluent wizard who grew up in the high society of France, his family in possession of old money from years of politics, Mr. Kensington is very much the wealthy working type. He and Ryder are not exceptionally close, nor are they exceptionally far, they are rather cordial, at most, and not affectionate in the least. His father was very much into the dark arts as a teenager during the reign of Voldemort, and Ryder quickly figured out that the dark arts are sort of a way of life, and you can't really stop once you've started. Though, with the fall of Voldemort, and his parents dropping all association, Ryder knows that his father somewhat resents his missed chances for glory and is trying to relive his life through Ryder's. Ryder, despite the control, loves his father, just as his father loves him, they just refuse to show it. Ry's father was always the one telling Ry to man up. To toughen up. And Ry has. The two are distant, especially with his father too busy with work to be worried about Ry, and Ry away at school.
Marie Lilian Kensington, To converse with Scandal is to play at Losing Loadum, you must lose a good name to him, before you can win it for yourself
relation, mother age, 41 occupation, stay at home mother, support system portrayed by, diane kruger relationship,
It really is a wonder that such a fine bred society debutante produced such children. Then again, this wasn't any debutante. Ryder always jokes that he got his personality from his mother, former French fashion IT girl and model, as notorious as they come. After Marie did some growing up, she was able to clear her name, and has since been a nominee for mother of the year for the eighteen years Ry has been alive. Caring, kind, though a bit overbearing, his mother has always been the perfect counterweight to the absence of his father. Though she isn't perfect, the fact that she cares has always been enough for Ryder, and he often will send her owls when he's lonely or just needs someone to talk to. They're much closer than she and Adeline, though Ry doesn't always make show of that. Marie cool composure and large alotment of freedom to her children only further understands her understanding of the desire to be wild, and the understanding that anything done can always be undone. Though it is far better never to commit a public wrong in the first place. And this she reminds Ryder constantly.
Hunter Aiden Devereux, You think to much about beeing cool. If you'd just shut the hell up once in while, stop thinking maybe you'd actually achieve my level of amazingness
Hunter and Ryder were practically raised together, and he's very much apart of the Kensington family, except for the fact that he moved to Britain when he was very young. Never the less, Ry and Hunter have been close for as logn as they can remember, and ironically enough it shows. Not only do the two look alike, they act surprisingly alike. Except for that Hunter is more of that quirky, boy born in Pairs and brought up in the fashion world cool to Ryder's sexy French boy who was brought up in a huge countryside manor. Yet the two remain very close, and though often find themselves bickering over girls, it doesn't go very far. They quickly recover and go off on a new conquest, usually succeeding with their charm and wit. Because their interests don't cross too often, they've never been really competitive with each other for anything but girls. They're just all around great friends and buddies who are out to have the best time possible while they still can.
detailed history,
His mother was his age when they met. She was eighteen, young, wild, and untouchable. He was twenty-four, something their parents through was utterly inappropriate. But Marie, used to the attention, cared less. But something happened along the way. Something completely unexpected. Something that wasn’t suppose to happen to the girl. She fell in love. And quite hard. With someone who was so far out of her league it was ridiculous. Edward was the perfect son of the perfect Kensington bloodline, never a fault or a misstep. No wild parties, no long nights. He was voted “most likely to become prime minister”, for crying out loud. And here she was, fallen in love with him.
Well apparently the boy had a wild side, because soon enough, after they’d dated for a little over a year, she found herself no longer Marie Rosseau, but Marie Kensington. And another year later she gave birth to a boy named Ryder William Kensington, a strong but still boyish name. Ry came out kicking and screaming, and was an extremely active, curious baby. It only escalated as he got older, and by the time he was five he was already quite the trouble maker. Though it was harmless trouble, his father would always roll his eyes and tease Marie that it was all her fault, those genes of hers. Though, quite the contrary, Ry was a spitting image of his father as a child. And expected to be just like his father. He was sent to the finest private Christian elementary school, and quickly identified as “gifted”, though it also became quickly apparent that he was causing as much trouble as the information he absorbed. He wasn’t a disobedient child, just mischievous. And curious. He excelled in science and math, and was popular among the school children, especially for his talent in school yard kickball. He had a fairly happy childhood, a pleasant time in school, and at home. His father was happier then, less involved in work. Though still a bit distant, strong. Adeline was born, much to a dissapointed Ryder. He'd enjoyed being an only child, and to have an intruder, and far worse, in his eyes, a girl, was, for a few weeks the end of his world. And he didn't even know the half of it. The girl was to become the little Kensington princess. And Ry loved nothing more to torture her. And disclude her by sticking "No Girls" signs in his tree houses while he and Hunter played away.
When Ry was nine, he and his parents moved to Britain, leaving the estate in the care of the house elves. His father was there for politics as an ambassador, so in turn, Ry finished his schooling at the same school Hunter went to, another private primary. When he was eleven, the year before he was was suppose to return to France to finish his schooling and be shipped off to Beauxbatons (yuck), he recieved one of the most coveted letters one could recieve. Clue: it had a Hogwarts seal on it. Ryder's parents, more than happy to ship him off to such a promising education. When Ryder found out Hunter had recieved one too, he was more than happy to BE shipped off. And, already a rather cocky child, knew exactly who he wanted to be. He was to be a Slytherin. And a magnificent one at that. Before long the boy was dreaming of hallways and magic and books. Not that he wasn't exposed to magic before, both of his parents were purebloods, they just didn't make a show of it. And Ry was expecting to be shipped off to Beauxbatons, which he felt was a rather feminine name. And there was no way in hell he was going to sound gay.
Ryder didn't exactly take Hogwarts by storm, though one would have guessed so at the status he has now. Rather, he eased in slowly. He was sorted into Slytherin with Hunter, to his delight and no one's surprise. He was quickly singled out amongst the first years. Whispers of the "rich french boy" were quickly spread, and labels given. And thus the ego was born. All of eleven, he didn't really have much interest in girls, he'd rather play with the boys, and first year did not pursue any of the opposite sex. In fact, he was much too busy falling in love with something else: a broom. His skill was above and beyond the first time he stepped on one, showing up everyone at broomstick flying class, though not allowed to join the team until his second year, and only as a chaser at that. However he proved to be a good addition to the team, even if he was a little green, his small size allowed for speedy recovery and expert dodging of players and bludgers alike.
By third year the boy was a walking quidditch sensation, and well respected on a general level, and where did it all go? Straight to his head of course. He had money, he had skills, and he had friends. And his best, of course, from day one, was Fred Weasley. The boy who was so much like his namesake it was uncanny. And Ry was more than happy to join in on the fun. The two of them made quite the bang. During his fourth and fifth years, Ry was changed to the seeker position, his quiddich skill, though maybe more useful in the chaser position, was more suited for seeking. And he made a fine seeker. By then, the boy was very much aware of the opposite sex, and, especialy with having Adeline and all her friends around, was never short of female companions. Occasionally he'd take the best liked ones back to France with him for the summer, as his parents had moved back during his third year. He was especially fond of Riley Ravelli, who'd quickly become his best friend, and by sixth year they were always sneaking firewiskey up to dorms and having thier own private parties. But soon that became a bit more, though neither of them seem to be able to admit it.
Now the boy is not only a quidditch sensation and the Wizarding World's most promising draft for the teams, he's become a sort of notorious legend. Stalked by gossipgirl of course. But any Kensington is, he'd soon learned. All his mother's genes, of course. He's got best friends, and best enemies, but he's so busy having a good time he doesn't really notice. But the boy will soon be in for a wake up call. Life's just around the corner, and the fun can't last forever.
